Understanding there is much despair in prison, Milligan has chosen this particular group of individuals in which to try and reach.  “The idea of donating my books to prisoners came to me when visiting the Bangkok Remand Prison located in the Trokkam District while volunteering with The Mirror Foundation in Sept. of 2014.  If these men and women can come to understand no matter what circumstances may have befallen them; hope of a better life is [never] out of reach.  My heart breaks when thinking of how lonely these people are.”  Of which, he describes this experience is greater detail in his upcoming book release of, “A Brief History in Thailand 2009 – 2014.”  Milligan further states, “Volunteering with The Mirror Foundation while in Thailand taught me many things […] one in particular --- I have clearly not given back enough.”

Milligan Honored with Southeast Asia's Best of Piety Award

February 21, 2015

International Author and Human Rights Advocate Mr. Gregg Tyler Milligan is one of the individuals who will be honored to receive The Best of Piety Award; also known as the Filial Piety Award, presented by The Delimirror News  – Thailand.      http://www.delimirrornew.co.th/

The award recognizes individuals who have shown respect for humanity in the face of adversity.  The spirit of the award is exemplified in ways such as a child/teen who was repeatedly abused, but chose to love instead of hate; along with a child who chose to love his parents even though they did not return this love.

Milligan’s story is even more compelling because he continued to love and care for his parents regardless of the abuse he endured at their hands.  Milligan has also shown that anyone can rise above the adversity of abuse and/or life’s trauma, raising his only son with love and compassion.  Thus breaking the cycle of abuse.  The award also represents a person who believes in a functional society, and pursues this by action, to be those of education and compassion as the only ways in which any society can survive and thrive.  Lastly, one who is ethical, engages in good conduct to all people, displays empathy for the innocent, fights for the weak, brings honor to his/her ancestors on earth and in heaven, by any and all sacrifices; including their own death.  Milligan’s books and his actions specifically exemplify this character.

The award ceremony will be hosted in Bangkok, Thailand on March 5th.  A black-tie event and media companies from all S.E. Asian countries will be present for filming and interviews.

It is the first time an American will be honored by receiving this award.
