Overview

In May 2026, Save One Another Foundation (SOAF) Thailand traveled to Pa La-U in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to continue its relationship-centered ministry among Karen children, students, church leaders, and Bible students living in a remote mountain community near the Thai–Myanmar border.

Building upon relationships established through previous visits, the initiative focused on educational support, practical care, spiritual encouragement, and community presence. Rather than organizing a large public event, the visit emphasized listening, relationship-building, and responding to identified needs within the community.

Through partnership with Pa La-U Thai Karn Church, SOAF sought to encourage children, support students, strengthen Bible trainees, and remind community members that they remain seen, valued, and remembered.

Community Engagement Journey

Pa Deng Church Children's Program

The visit began with participation in a summer learning program serving twenty Karen elementary-aged children who were studying piano and English through the church's educational ministry.

Children participated in worship, storytelling, games, creative activities, and fellowship designed to encourage confidence, joy, and a sense of belonging. A simple story from Dr. Gregg Tyler Milligan's childhood was shared to help children understand that God sees their lives, values them, and remains present during difficult circumstances.

A creative plaster-painting activity provided opportunities for self-expression, concentration, and enjoyment while strengthening relationships between the children and visiting team members.

Support for Students and Bible Trainees

During the afternoon gathering at Pa La-U Thai Karen Church, SOAF provided educational support and essential supplies for middle school and high school students, Bible students from Myanmar, and church staff families connected to the ministry.

The gathering included prayer, worship, encouragement, and the distribution of school uniforms, shoes, belts, educational materials, personal care items, and shared kitchen supplies.

Translation was provided in the Karen language throughout the gathering to ensure that encouragement, teaching, and prayer could be received clearly and respectfully.

Special prayer was also offered for several Bible students who were unable to attend due to ongoing instability and conflict affecting areas near the Myanmar border.

Impact Summary

The initiative strengthened existing relationships between SOAF Thailand and the Pa La-U Thai Karen Church community while providing practical support and encouragement to children, students, Bible trainees, and local families.

Educational assistance helped address immediate needs among school-aged children, while personal care items and household provisions provided additional support for Bible students and church-based community life.

Most importantly, the visit reinforced a sense of connection, dignity, and belonging. Through presence, prayer, shared activities, and practical support, community members were reminded that they had not been forgotten.

Safeguarding & Consent

All photographs, stories, videos, and identifying details are shared only with appropriate consent and according to SOAF safeguarding principles, dignity-centered communication practices, and partner-authorized media guidelines.

Participation in activities remained voluntary and culturally appropriate throughout the visit.

Scripture

"Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth."
— 1 John 3:18 (NKJV)

Closing Reflection

The Pa La-U journey served as a reminder that meaningful ministry is often expressed through faithful presence rather than visible scale.

The most significant outcome of the visit was not simply the distribution of supplies, but the strengthening of relationships. Children, students, Bible trainees, church leaders, and families experienced practical care accompanied by personal presence, prayer, encouragement, and fellowship.

In a remote community where resources can be limited and distances can feel great, being remembered carries profound meaning.

Through simple acts of service, shared worship, attentive listening, and ongoing relationship, the visit reflected SOAF's continuing commitment to walk alongside communities with humility, compassion, and Christ-centered care.
